Douro-Dummer: Defending Peterborough Motor Sports Club (PMSC) solo champion, Ian Dyck of Campbellford, took top honours in the Watch Winder Solo event Sunday at the Douro Community Centre parking lot. Dyck piloted his 1995 Dodge Neon to first place based on time handicap. Dyck registered a best adjusted “pax” time of 62.635 seconds, less than a half second ahead of Peterborough’s Phil Tighe (1999 Mazda Miata) and Chris Johnson of Cobourg (1997 Subaru Legacy). Cars are assigned handicaps based on their make/model/year and level of modification. Tighe actually took the overall fastest raw time of the day with a 73.832 second run. Twelve competitors took on the twisting course set up with pylons. Drivers are electronically timed and penalized for hitting pylons or going off course. The next event for PMSC is the Speed Weekend Solo held at Kawartha Downs Speedway on June 26th. The club’s June 22nd monthly meeting will be held at the Peterborough County /City EMS Headquarters on Armour Road in Peterborough. The meeting starts at 7:30 and includes a presentation by EMS Chief Bob English and tours of the facility. The Peterborough Motor Sports Club, one of the oldest such clubs in Canada, is a multi-discipline organization promoting safe and supervised competition in road rallies, performance rallies, solo events ice racing and more.
